TV Everywhere or BOHICA
If you haven’t heard of TV Everywhere, you will.
And when you hear it’s the brainchild of Comcast and Time Warner, you’d better reach for your wallet.
TV Everywhere is one of the concepts that sounds good in theory until you realize how many time’s you get hosed.
See, you get all this content over a cable. But you don’t always want to watch it when it’s scheduled or on a TV so you watch it over the internet that happens to come over the same cable that provides your TV.
But the bandwidth that comes to your home network is metered- or it’s about to be soon.
So you effectively get to pay twice for the same content. Isn’t that grand!
And when the cable companies talk about bandwidth metering not being an issue or bandwidth caps rarely being exceeded, know that they’re suckering you- 150GB of download capacity only sounds impressive until you start downloading HD content [movies can take anywhere from 2-7 GB] and shift your viewing habits from being in front of the TV to using an internet device.
And that’s before they consider adding it as a fee-based service which given the cable operator’s track record, is a safe bet.
It’s moves like this that make me want to drop TV all together and just use the internet.
